Protective Shower Seal for Fixed Panels Silicone Sealant RequiredDescription:Protective Shower Seal for Fixed Panels – Silicone Sealant RequiredWhen it comes to ensuring your bathroom stays dry and free from water damage, the right shower seal is essential. One of the most common and highly effective solutions for shower enclosures, particularly fixed panels, is the protective shower seal. This simple yet essential product not only frames the glass but also provides a barrier to help keep water contained within the shower area. This article will explore the purpose, features, and installation of a protective shower seal for fixed panels, which requires silicone sealant to make it fully watertight. What is a Protective Shower Seal?A protective shower seal is a type of sealant that frames the glass of a shower enclosure, offering protection between the glass and the surrounding surfaces. Unlike seals with fins that are designed to close gaps, this type of seal has a more straightforward, no-fin design and is often used at the bottom of fixed panels. It serves to protect the glass from the tray or floor, which can help prevent wear and tear over time. The seal is made of high-quality, rigid PVC U-section, which comfortably fits glass panels ranging from 4mm to 6mm thick. The PVC material is durable and resistant to water damage, making it ideal for long-term use in wet environments like bathrooms. How Does the Seal Work? The main function of a protective shower seal is to frame the glass of your shower or bath screen. It’s often installed at the bottom of fixed panels, ensuring that the glass does not make direct contact with the tray or floor. This can help prevent scratches, chips, and other damage to the glass, prolonging the life of your shower or bath screen.Although the seal itself is designed to frame the glass, it does not create a watertight barrier on its own. For full waterproofing, silicone sealant is required around the outside of the seal to ensure that no water leaks through. This extra step makes the installation process crucial to creating a fully sealed environment for your shower or bath area.Benefits of a Protective Shower SealGlass Protection: The seal provides an extra layer of protection for your glass, preventing it from coming into direct contact with potentially abrasive surfaces like the tray or floor. This helps to maintain the glass’s clarity and prevents unsightly marks or scratches.Easy Installation: Installing this type of seal is relatively simple. It can be pushed onto the glass from one end and worked along the length of the panel. Once in place, applying silicone sealant around the edges ensures a tight, watertight fit.Durability: Made from high-quality PVC, this shower seal is designed to withstand the constant exposure to water and steam typical in a bathroom environment. It’s durable and built to last, offering long-term protection for your shower enclosure.Versatility: Although commonly used at the bottom of fixed panels, this protective seal can also be used vertically along the upright of the glass, providing additional protection between the glass and the wall or tiles.Customizable Lengths: These seals come in various lengths, such as 800mm, 900mm, 1400mm, 2000mm, and 2500mm, and can be easily trimmed to fit the specific measurements of your shower or bath screen. This ensures a perfect fit for any installation. How to Install the Protective Shower SealPreparation: Before installation, ensure the glass is clean and free of any debris or residue. This will help the sealant adhere properly when applied.Fit the Seal: Starting at one end of the glass, push the protective seal onto the glass. Work your way along, gently pressing it into place. Be sure not to slide the seal along the glass, as this can cause damage to both the glass and the seal.Apply Silicone Sealant: Once the seal is in place, apply a bead of silicone sealant around the outside of the seal. This will create a watertight barrier to prevent any leaks. Use a silicone gun for a precise application, and smooth the silicone with a damp cloth to ensure an even seal.Allow to Cure: Let the silicone cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This typically takes 24 hours for full curing.Final Check: After the sealant has cured, check for any gaps or areas where water may leak through. If necessary, apply additional silicone to fill any voids.ConclusionA protective shower seal for fixed panels is a simple but effective way to keep your shower enclosure protected and watertight. By framing the glass and preventing contact with the floor or tray, this seal ensures that your shower glass remains free from damage. With the added step of applying silicone sealant to the outside of the seal, you can create a fully sealed environment that prevents water from escaping. If you have curved glass or need a specific size, many suppliers offer customizable options, along with guides to help you achieve a perfect fit. Don’t hesitate to contact the supplier for guidance on how to select the right seal for your setup. With the right protective shower seal and a little bit of silicone sealant, you can keep your shower enclosure in top condition for years to come.
